Let’s Take the First Step — Together
We Spend Years Building Wealth. One Medical Bill Shouldn’t End It.

Most people discuss investments with me.
But yesterday, one of my mutual fund family members asked for help with something different —
choosing a health insurer for their family of three.
I told them honestly:
this isn’t my core area of work.
But the question stayed with me.
-------------------------------------
So I started reading, researching, and understanding the basics more carefully.
During that process, I came across a line often attributed to Nikhil Kamath that stayed with me:
“Most Indians are just one hospitalisation away from bankruptcy.”
-------------------------------------
One misconception became very clear.
People choose health insurance based on free medical tests, slightly lower premiums,
or “my cousin has the same policy” —
while ignoring the most basic data that is freely available to all of us.
So today, I’m not recommending any product.
I’m simply placing public data in front of you.
Here’s what that data looks like.
-------------------------------------
Premium Collection — Retail Health (Apr–Nov 2025)
(Source: General Insurance Council (GIC), compiled by Heph)
• Star Health: ₹10,337 crore
• CARE Health: ₹3,750 crore
• Niva Bupa: ₹3,272 crore
-------------------------------------
Complaints — FY 2023–24
(Source: Council for Insurance Ombudsmen — Annual Report 2023–24)
• Star Health: 13,308 complaints
• CARE Health: 3,718 complaints
• Niva Bupa: 2,511 complaints
-------------------------------------
Claim Settlement Ratio (Indicative — recent public data)
(Compiled from industry trackers & insurer disclosures)
• Star Health: ~82–86%
• CARE Health: ~92–93%
• Niva Bupa: ~92–98%
Claim Settlement Ratio reflects the proportion of claims settled against claims received.
It is an important indicator — but not the only one.
Always read policy wording, exclusions, claim timelines, and grievance history together.
-------------------------------------
High business does not automatically mean smooth experience.
Low premium does not automatically mean safety.
And friendly advice is not the same as informed advice.
We spend years building wealth — slowly, patiently, with discipline.
That journey deserves protection.
One medical emergency should not decide how that story ends.
