Let’s Take the First Step — Together

In the last few days, the big conversation in the market has been about the Avadhut Sathe case and the SEBI penalty of ₹600+ crore.
He sold ₹546 crore worth of courses, claiming:
“Trading is so easy that even a 6-year-old can do it.”
But when SEBI opened his books…
his own portfolio showed a loss of ₹17 crore.
Yet lakhs trusted him.
Not because he had results.
Not because he had experience.
But because he spoke confidently and appeared everywhere.

This Isn’t About One Person — This Is About Blind Trust
Recently, while reviewing multiple ₹10–20 lakh mutual fund portfolios, I noticed something worrying:
Heavy exposure to small caps
Business cycle funds
Thematic bets
Gold ETFs
And ZERO allocation to large caps
When I asked why, the answer was the same:
“Someone recommended it.”
But nobody asked the MOST important question:
“How is your portfolio doing?”
And that’s the real problem.

**If You Don’t Want an Advisor — That’s Absolutely Fine.
But PLEASE Don’t Skip This One Step.**
You may not want to pay commissions.
You may prefer DIY investing.
You may trust a friend, a colleague, a senior, a YouTuber, or a relative.
That’s perfectly okay.
But before taking any advice, ask these basic questions without feeling shy:
✔ How long have you been investing?
✔ What returns has your portfolio delivered over 5–10 years?
✔ How did your portfolio perform during market crashes?
✔ What mistakes have you learned from?
✔ Do you invest in the same products you recommend?
If someone cannot openly answer these questions,
you should NOT follow their advice — no matter how confident they sound.
You are trusting them with your money, your savings, your future.
You have every right to ask.

**Hype can sell ₹546 crore worth of courses.
But only experience can protect your wealth.**
Don’t be shy.
Don’t feel awkward.
Don’t think, “What will they feel if I ask?”
Your money = your responsibility to question.
